The exalted benefits of green tea consumption are well documented, but off late, green tea and the other teas are proving to show a good deal of promise for topical skin application.

KEY INGREDIENTS & THEIR PROPERTIES
  • Green Tea Extract: Green tea contains catechins that have anti-bacterial properties that can kill off acne-causing bacteria by blocking bacteria from adhering to cell walls disrupting the bacteria's ability to destroy the cells (1). The EGCG compounds in green tea can actually reactivate skin cells while it’s high level of antioxidant oligomeric proanthocyanidins – OPCs –help ward off premature aging by fighting free radicals and healing damaged cells and inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, which are essential for skin’s strength and suppleness (2). Green tea could stimulate activity in old skin cells, indicating its potential use for promoting skin regeneration, wound healing, and for treating skin conditions (3).  Green tea’s anti-bacterial agents suppress acne-causing bacteria while its potent anti-inflammatory properties help reduce the redness and inflammation brought about by zits, thereby helping them heal sans the scars (3). Green tea also contains tannins which are astringent substances that shrink or constrict body tissues usually locally after topical applications (4).
  • Black Tea Extract: Black tea contains vitamins (B2, C, E), minerals (magnesium, potassium, zinc), some essential oils, polyphenols and tannins (5). It is able to protect us from premature aging and mimic wrinkles. Polyphenols and tannins in black tea accelerate skin regeneration. Tea also helps prevent pimples and soothes irritated skin. Due to its high caffeine content, black tea could be used to treat puffy eyes (1).
  • Aloe Vera Gel: An antipruritic (relives or prevents itching), it’s a great way to hydrate, moisturize and rejuvenate the skin and increase skin elasticity through collagen and elastin repair (6).   • Peppermint Essential Oil: Contains menthol, which is good for the skin because it creates a cooling sensation (7). Furthermore, it nourishes dull skin and improves the texture of oily or greasy skin. It has a calming effect on skin inflammation, while its anti-bacterial properties help cure acne naturally (8).
  • Lavender Essential Oil: Has cicatrisant properties that help speed up the healing process of cuts and wounds, apart from making scars disappear (9). Apply it topically for anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and regenerative properties.
  • Geranium Essential Oil: Has hydrating properties and is beneficial in the treatment of acne, dermatitis due to its antibacterial, anti-fungal properties (10). It helps purge out toxins, dirt, grime, dead cells and will calm skin inflammation by promoting blood circulation (10). 


The green tea facewash comes in  a plastic bottle with flip top lid in 30, 60 & 120 mL formats.



Light brown in color, gel like in consistency and light in texture, the face wash has a gorgeous fragrance of geranium, courtesy of the essential oil and has suspended tea particulates that do not aid as an exfoliating agent. 
 

To use, squeeze some product into your hands and massage onto dampened skin before rinsing it off with tepid water. 


This soap free cleanser is formulated with natural, antioxidant-rich green tea extract to moisturize and brighten the skin. It gently washes dirt and oil while leaving the skin feeling and smelling fresh without drying. To enhance it's effects, I prefer to refrigerate the product as iced tea is supposed to help moisturize the skin, while refreshing it. 


The green tea face wash is brimming with nutrients that help to hydrate, soothe, tone, and restore the skin while the scent adds a unique mood-enhancing quality to the experience.
