Burst Of Happyness : Buttered Up

My daughter who is 3 gets sporadic bouts of eczema which is related to dry weather conditions and not diet. I have been told they will subside over time and might never recur. When winter comes around, I stock up on body moisturizers.

This solid lotion bar by Burst Of Happyness intrigued me mainly because I have been using body butters for a while and wanted to know the difference between the two. So the main difference is the consistency and hardness. While body butters, salves and balms tend to be softer and a bit more oily, lotion bars on the other hand, harden as soon as they are poured and have more of a waxy consistency (owing to the wax in it).

As with all BOH products, this lotion bar too is vegan, free of artificial/synthetic preservatives and fragrances.

  • Shea Butter: Is a soft butter pressed from the nut of the Karite tree (4). Shea butter is high in vitamins A, E and F, provides collagen (to assist prevention of skin aging & wrinkles), and contains essential fatty acids (1). Shea butter is an intense moisturizer for dry skin, and is a wonderful product for revitalizing damaged skin (3).

  • Kokum Butter: Healing butter that can help revitalize skin cells while supporting elasticity and flexibility (2). It is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamin e, and is non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores), making it a perfect choice for dry, cracked, rough, damaged and calloused skin.

  • Candelilla Wax: Extracted from the candelilla shrub, is a vegan alternative to beeswax. Often used in products that spread thinly and absorb quickly.

  • Essential Oils Of Spearmint & Mandrin: Spearmint oil has antimicrobial properties which are obtained from its chemical constituents: cis-carveol and carvone (5). Mandrin oil cures skin disorders & maintains moisture balance in the skin (6).

The lotion bar has a waxy/granular consistency which is because both the mango and kokum butter have a fairly hard consistency, and if the storage area is particularly cold (think cold Canadian winters 😔 ⛄️), there will be small granules in your body butter.

These quickly melt at body temperature to form oils (see swatch) which gets well absorbed (takes a couple of minutes) by the skin. There is a light greasiness to this product which is why I usually use this after my daughters bed time bath. The following morning her skin is soft, supple and well hydrated. This 60 gm tub lasted me for a month when used once daily.

There is strong minty, almost medicine like fragrance to the lotion bar. However my daughter doesn't seem to mind it at all. This winter I haven't yet seen any dry patches on my tiny tot which makes me very happy. Overall a very effective product and due to its solid consistency makes it an ideal travel partner.

Have you tried this BOH product yet? If not grab yourself one this winter and let me know how did it fare for you!!!
