Just Herbs : Deep Cleansing Lotion

Our skin is under a constant barrage of toxins from various elements on a daily basis. Air pollutants, makeup, sun are some of the major contributors to skin damage. Deep cleansing has become a regular fixture in my CTM routine.

KEY INGREDIENTS & THEIR BENEFITS
  • Aloe Vera Leaf Juice  (1%) : Aloe vera’s blend of amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals have been used since ancient Egyptian times to rejuvenate, protect, soothe and beautify the skin. It calms irritations and restores tired skin (1)

  • Indian Rose Oil (2%):  Has excellent emollient properties for moisturizing dry skin; it also offers antiseptic and astringent properties to treat acne skin, as well as anti-inflammatory properties that help treat redness and inflammation (2).

  • Sunflower seed oil**: Gentle emollients that help retain moisture while softening the skin. They absorb easily and do not block pores, allowing their antioxidant flavanoids, rich in vitamins A and E, to penetrate deeply, purifying and protecting skin from free radical damage and signs of premature aging (3).

  • Caprylic/ capric triglycerides: Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, it’s considered an excellent emollient and skin-repairing ingredient. Due to its mix of fatty acids , the skin can use to repair its surface and resist moisture loss (4). Caprylic/capric triglyceride can also function as a thickener, but its chief job is to moisturize and replenish skin. The medium-chain fatty acids that comprise this ingredient have an anti-inflammatory effect that reduces the risk of breakouts (4). In addition, caprylic/capric triglyceride is not an oily or wax-like ingredient that can easily get stuck in the pore lining (4).

  • Rose Hydrosol: Rose water soothes red and irritated sensitive skin by its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties (5). It has astringent like properties, tightens capillaries, and reduces redness and blotchiness, helps reduce dryness by providing hydration (5). Its anti-inflammatory property reduces pimples by stopping the growth of bacteria: If used as a toner, rose water removes oil off your face, reduces pimples, hydrates your skin and unclogs the pores (5).

  • Glyceryl stearate citrate/Cetearyl alcohol/Glyceryl caprylate***: Used as an emulsifier (to avoid separation of water and other products), co-emulsifier and consistency enhancer and for its antimicrobial effectiveness respectively.

  • Vegetable glycerine*: Glycerin is a skin-identical and skin-repairing ingredient, it is one of the many substances in skin that help maintain the outer barrier and prevent dryness or scaling (6).

  • Shea Butter: Shea butter’s oils are similar to the natural oils secreted by the skin, helping it absorb easily and deeply.  It soothes irritations and enhances elasticity, improves the skin’s barrier function, reduces water loss and relieves dryness (7).

  • Dicaprylyl Carbonate***: Emollient ingredient that spreads easily and leaves a velvety feel on skin without seeming greasy or slick (8). It also helps other ingredients penetrate skin better.

  • Disodium EDTA: Stabilizer used in cosmetics to prevent ingredients in a given formula from binding with trace elements (particularly minerals) that can be present in water. EDTA also keeps other ingredients from causing unwanted changes to a product’s texture, odor, and/or consistency (9).

  • Potassium Sorbate: Used as a preservative due to its ability to inhibit mold and yeast growth in cosmetics products once it breaks down into sorbic acid. It has weak activity against bacteria, which is why it is almost always used in conjunction with other preservative (10).

  • Sodium Benzoate: The benzoic acid portion of this ingredient conveys some amount of preservative benefit, most notably against fungi (11).

Natural preservative (Herbs-Essential oil Complex), Fragrance.*Certified Organic **Certified Organic Cold Pressed ***ECOCERT approved (Natural ingredient from renewable resources).

The deep cleansing lotion comes in a 100 gm transparent plastic bottle with a pump dispenser and a protective cap. The cream is white in color, fairly light in texture and gets absorbed well into the skin. The lotion has a mild and sweet fragrance of roses that does not linger around for long.

I use this deep cleansing lotion either to remove makeup residues, after a spending a day outside or when I feel my skin looks particularly dull. To use, I pump the dispenser twice, apply the lotion to my face evenly, massage in circular motions and wipe the excess with a cotton pad and follow my CTM routine.

The lotion is a mild yet effective cleanser that removes impurities and make-up and helps the skin to maintain its natural moisture balance. My skin is on the dry/dehydrated side but after cleansing with the lotion, my skin feels well hydrated, clean & soft. I have been using this cleansing lotion for over 6 months now and I haven't noticed any breakouts. I do however follow up with my regular CTM routine after.

Overall I would think this deep cleansing lotion would suit all skin types.
