SkinYoga : Orange Almond Scrub

My dry skin makes it absolutely necessary I regularly exfoliate. Exfoliating basically means getting the top layer of skin off – not the good, living skin, but the older, flaky skin that rests on top. When the old skin is gone, the newer skin looks healthier and shinier. Naturally exfoliating also means there is less dead skin to clog pores, which makes for fewer break-outs and blackheads.

KEY INGREDIENTS & THEIR BENEFITS
  • Almond Meal: Ingredient is rich in vitamin E, selenium and monounsaturated fat, and is considered a good protective antioxidant for the skin (1). The slightly abrasive texture allows it to scrub away dead skin gently but leaves the skin pretty emollient because of the monounsaturated fat present in almond meal.
  • Sundried Orange Peel: The nutrients in orange peel powder are vitamin C that protects skin from free radical damage, calcium that helps in renewal of worn out cells, potassium that keeps the skin hydrated and magnesium that prevents oxidative stress in skin cells (2). Orange peels consist of natural bleaching agents that help make skin visibly fairer, by eliminating dark spots and patches from skin (3). Being slightly acidic in nature, Orange peel helps cleanse skin of surplus sebum thus preventing acne (3). Orange peels contains 136mg of vitamin C per 100 grams, the potent antioxidant elements in the peel, helps fight free radicals preventing premature ageing of  skin (3). Orange peels with 161 mg of calcium per 100 grams are beneficial for skin as the human skin consists of a large amount of calcium in its top most layers and calcium protects skin from DNA damage and helps rejuvenate skin (3).
  • Chickpea Flour: Great as a face mask or a scrub because of its slightly gritty texture, it draws out impurities and excess oil and is hence, good for acne prone skin. As an exfoliator, it helps remove dead skin leading to skin rejuvenation and aid with the removal of fine facial hair aka peach fuzz. It is also good to lighten skin tone and blemish marks (4).
  • Turmeric: Turmeric has anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti bacterial properties making it very effective in treating almost all the skin related diseases (5). The anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties that turmeric possesses can help in treating acne, eczema, rosacea and aids in skin rejuvenation. In acne, turmeric can soothe skin blemishes and heal acne scars. For eczema, applying turmeric can reduce inflammation and redness and in case of  rosacea, turmeric can reduce the tiny pimples and redness (6). Turmeric face masks are used to rejuvenate skin and regular use of turmeric with various combination of ingredients can soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines (6).

The orange almond scrub comes in a 50 gm signature SkinYoga glass jar accompanied with a wooden spoon. The packaging as usually is aesthetically very appealing and it's a treat to unbox their products .

The scrub is yellowish in color, powdery in consistency and gritty in texture. There is a very summer, citrus"y" fragrance to the scrub that I absolutely love.

To use, I take the desired amount of the product using the wooden spoon provided, spritz Oilcraft Naturals Panch Pusph facial mist and bring it to a paste like consistency and apply it to the face. I massage it in circular motions and  leave it on for a while before I rinse it off.

Like all other SkinYoga products, this scrub is soap free, made with 100% natural and skin loving ingredients. The scrub doubles as a cleanser leaving my skin cleansed, hydrated and soft to touch. Though gritty, the scrub isn't in the least abrasive on the skin and gently exfoliates to reveal  glowing skin. The presence of turmeric does not stain the skin, something I was very concerned about. Upon regular usage I do believe it will brighten and even out the skin tone.  The product is safe to travel with since the glass jar comes with a well sealing lid that would prevent any spillage.

Like all other SkinYoga products this too doesn't disappoint and  I am looking forward to trying other great products from the brand.
