Venustas Essentials : Mocha Foot Scrub

Coarse salt scrubs are good for removing dead skin like on your feet and elbows, and are the ideal treatment for skin detoxification. Since the salt granules work a little harder than the gentler sugar scrubs, salt scrubs are a good choice for where skin can get especially dry and calloused.

Salt scrubs are extremely invigorating and refreshing to the skin.  It’s important to exfoliate the top layer of the skin to remove dry and dead skin cells and bring the fresh new skin to the surface, giving it a more youthful appearance.  The exfoliation process also helps remove impurities and toxins from the skin, un-blocks pores and reduces inflammation.

KEY INGREDIENTS & THEIR BENEFITS
  • Epsom Salt:  Magnesium salts such as epsom salts are extremely hydrating to the skin and highly therapeutic for skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis (1).  The salts are also beneficial for stress relief and muscular relaxation. They can help decrease inflammation and speed up the healing process in the body.   The sulfates they contain are also are also very cleansing and detoxifying to the body, helping remove toxins (1).
  • Himalayan Pink Salt: The Himalayan crystal salts are also cleansing and detoxifying to the body and can help revitalise and re-energise a tired body, soothing aching muscles and joints (1). They are hydrating to skin leaving it soft and supple and are also fantastic for skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis.
  • Brown & Palm Sugar: Acts as a natural exfoliator, does not clog pores, helps eliminate blemishes and restores balance to skin’s oils (2). Sugar contains glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is crucial for maintaining healthy skin.  The natural glycolic acid in sugar not only helps condition and moisturize the skin but protects it from toxins.
  • Virgin Coconut Oil: The saturated fats in coconut oil are medium chain fatty acids or triglycerides, when applied on the skin, they keep it smooth. Due to the presence of these fats, coconut oil also retains the moisture content of the skin, as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores on skin (3). Capric/caprylic/lauric acids have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties which when applied on the skin, protects from microbial infections that can get into open wounds or even enter the body through the pores (3). Rich in vitamin E, it is essential for healthy skin growth, repair of wear & tear on the skin, keeping skin smooth and protecting against cracking (3) Above all, it prevents premature aging and wrinkling of the skin, since it has good antioxidant properties. Coconut oil is also rich in many proteins that keep skin healthy and rejuvenated, both internally and externally (3).
  • Mocha: Exfoliates the skin, removing dry, dead skin, to reveal new, healthy-looking skin underneath.
  • Cocoa: Helps to renew and firm new skin cells, promote healthy skin tissues, and it also helps promote healthy cell development (4). Cocoa powder is a powerful antioxidant and helps to repair any damaged skin, absorbs UV light into the skin, improves function of blood vessels, increasing blood flow, increasing hydration, decreasing skin roughness and improves complexion and helps the skin stay hydrated (4). Topically, this increased hydration calms and soothes the skin.

Seema of Venustas Essentials, sent me a complimentary mocha foot scrub along with the rest of my order (thank you again Seema). The dark brown scrub comes in a neat little reusable glass jar, is coarse/gritty in texture, crumbly in consistency and has a aroma of coffee & chocolate....YUMMM!!

To use,  I take a handful of the skin apply it to dampened skin and massage it on the feet to slough off dead, callused skin.

The coffee grinds, salts and sugars are suspended in coconut oil and the scrub needs a stir before application. My feet though not neglected tend to show dryness symptoms faster and require extra TLC!

I use the scrub once or twice a week in tandem with a pumice stone. With the exfoliating effects of both epsom and Himalayan pink salt, this scrub will leave even the most over worked feet feeling both smooth and moisturized. While the exfoliators work at dead skin and callouses, the coconut oil penetrates deep to heal dry skin. A little goes a long way with this extremely luxurious scrub.

For your softest feet ever, add this scrub into your shower routine once or twice a week for a spa like experience.
